Examples of projects and initiatives supported by the EU in Larnaca
Larnaca, Cyprus’ third largest city, is located on the
northwestern side of the island and has a population of 143 200.
The city has the second largest port in the country and is a
tourism hotspot. In addition, Larnaca has been continuously
inhabited at the same location for over 4 000 years, the most
important event in the city’s history.

1.Redevelopment of streets and facilitation of people with disabilities in Larnaca Centre
Street works and improved accessibility for people with disabilities in the centre of Larnaca. The project was inaugurated in 2023 with the main aim of improving accessibility for people with disabilities in the city centre.
2.Creation of an environmental center for visitors and for educational purposes in Aliki Larnaca
Development of an environmental information and education centre in Larnaca Salt Lake, one of Cyprus’ two wetlands. The environmental centre will be housed in a former leprosy hospital on Agios Charalampos, on the lake’s northern shore. It will provide visitors and locals with information on the environmental, historical and cultural importance of the area.
3.Square Renovation and Landscaping in Zouchouri
Renovation/restoration of Zouchouri Square and building complex The project was inaugurated in 2023 with the aim of upgrading the local area by creating green spaces and conserving and restoring the buildings’ interiors
4.New Municipal Market in the urban centre of Larnaca
Construction of a new municipal market in Larnaca city centre with an outdoor space for an open-air market and a multi-storey car park. The municipal market is located on the ground floor of the building and has 20 shops and an information centre.
